Mainland to Hawaii, with a Seattle overnight
This is the direction where the rules bite. Every Hawaii window above is counted backwards from the moment your pet lands in Honolulu — not from when it leaves your origin city. A Seattle overnight pushes the Hawaii arrival date one day later, which is usually helpful for the 30-day waiting period and actively risky for the 14-day tick treatment window.
The practical consequence: have your vet time the tick treatment and the health certificate against the Hawaii landing date your shipper has booked, including the layover night. If the treatment was applied on day 13 of a 14-day window and the pet then sits in Seattle overnight, it lands on day 15.
HDOA also advises allowing at least four to five hours when booking connecting flights, because the airline may take an hour or more just to deliver the pet to the quarantine facility after landing. If your onward connection inside Hawaii is tighter than that, the layover you actually need may be in Honolulu, not Seattle.
