Questions pet owners ask
How early should I start planning?
As early as you can. Veterinary import requirements for many destinations take more than 60 days to complete, so Best Pet Travel recommends getting in touch at least 60 days before you plan to travel.
My dog is large or anxious. What is flying in cargo like?
Pets in cargo travel in a climate-controlled hold, in an IATA-regulated hard-shell kennel sized so your pet can stand, turn around and lie down comfortably. Each airline sets its own temperature limits, so hot or cold weather anywhere on the route can delay a trip, and some airlines restrict or refuse flat-faced breeds such as Bulldogs and Pugs. Best Pet Travel regularly moves senior pets and pets with medical conditions, working with your veterinarian on a safe travel plan.
Is my pet insured during the trip?
Yes. Each pet that travels with Best Pet Travel is insured up to the cost of its pet travel contract.
Can my pet be sedated for the flight?
Sedation is discouraged. It can lower a pet's blood pressure, which is a problem with aircraft pressurization, and both IATA and the American Veterinary Medical Association recommend against it. Pheromone products such as Adaptil for dogs or Feliway for cats are a safer way to help a pet stay calm.
Can my pet fly in the cabin with me?
Small pets, typically under 15 to 20 lbs, may qualify for the cabin on some airlines. Most international moves need cargo travel because of size limits and import rules. Best Pet Travel will tell you which option fits your pet and route.
What should I confirm before I book?
The destination's official import rules and timing for your route, the airline and its current pet policy, the services included and the cancellation terms, and every government, airline and third-party fee, all in writing.
